Nano waterproofing stops active leaks by soaking into existing tiles and grout, creating a water-repelling barrier from within. In most cases, that means no hacking. For toilet and bathroom seepage, the whole job is often done within a day, with no dust and no need to rip out your existing finishes. Atlas Works applies Canadian nano technology with self-healing properties designed to deliver 10+ years of waterproofing performance, which is why homeowners who’ve already tried (and lost to) recurring leaks tend to ask for it by name.

Key Takeaways

  • Nano waterproofing penetrates concrete to create an internal hydrophobic barrier rather than forming a surface film that wears away.
  • Toilet and bathroom leaks are typically sealed within 4 hours with full usability restored in one day.
  • The Canadian nano technology is designed for 10+ years of performance and backed by a 3-year workmanship warranty.
  • Structural cracks wider than 2mm, hollow tiles, and failed screeds require hacking or injection rather than nano treatment.
  • Atlas Works holds BCA specialist training, bizSAFE Level 3 certification, and IRATA rope access credentials for external works.

Contacted Atlas after a bathroom tile grout failure led to musty odours (due to water seeping through the grout gaps), and after another waterproofing company failed to fix the issue. I was impressed by Atlas’ professionalism, where Eric and Edwin took the time to properly inspect all corners of the bathroom, ask clarifying questions to truly understand the problem, and to patiently explain how the nano-waterproofing coating works. As a result, my bathroom is now waterproofed properly without any visible tiny gaps, and I am confident that the leakage issue has been resolved. Despite leaning towards the pricier side, the quality of materials, craftsmanship, and overall service was much better than the initial contractor. Would recommend anyone facing a similar problem to give Atlas a call!

Owner's reply
Thank you for taking the time to detail your experience. We are pleased that our team, with Eric and Edwin, could carefully inspect the bathroom, explain the nano-waterproofing coating, and resolve the water seepage through the failed grout without visible gaps. It is encouraging to know the workmanship and materials have given you confidence after your experience with a previous contractor. We appreciate your recommendation to others facing a similar bathroom leakage issue.

We invited Atlas Works and four other highly rated companies to view and quote. Atlas Works is not the cheapest but they gave us the most reasonable and practical advice, so we decided to work with them. We did retiling and waterproofing the rooftop, waterproofing all bathrooms, all planters on all levels & balcony. Also painted the whole house indoor & outdoor. After the work was done, I recommended Atlas Works to a few of my neighbours because they praised that the painting looks so good. It is thanks to supervisor Sohel & his team, also thanks to Eric & Xavier.

Owner's reply
Thank you, Moe, for sharing such a detailed account of your experience. We are pleased that our team’s advice was practical for the rooftop retiling and waterproofing, bathroom and planter waterproofing, balcony works, and the indoor and outdoor painting. We will be sure to share your recognition with Sohel, Eric and Xavier, and we appreciate your recommendations to your neighbours.

I chanced upon Atlas Works from a social media posting, contacted them via whats app - and within a day or two, they responded - asked a few questions, I sent them photos of affected areas of my home - balcony, parapet, internal and external walls, floors etc. A site visit was arranged where Xavier - business development and technical person - came, went thru the concerned areas and gave me and my wife a snapshot of the root problems …. I have hired other waterproofing contractors before - but over the years all they did was replaster, recoat with waterproofing and painting .. but problem persists. A few years ago, i even hacked and replaced my balcony flooring and tiling .. still, we had problems. What impressed us most was how Xavier identified the root problems - he found hollow areas below my floor tiles, hollow areas on the parapet walls, and also reasons for water ingress into those areas; and he tells us the various ways (including nano grouting and nano crystalline solutions ) to fix the problems . It was all very logical and first time we hear such good analysis. We also have a swimming pool that needed regrouting (after 8 years), and he explains what they can do with nano-grouting. We also have a basement floor where water were seaping thru the tiles .. and they also explained the reasons and what can be done. After a few sites visits and with additional members Edwin, Sohel, Morinul - we decided to go ahead with Atlas Works. Eric also contacted me whilst he was travelling, and came to also visit us. There were two teams - it seems they are specialised in different methods - that over 8 days - came to do the work. The team were diligent, quiet, and cleaned up every day after the works. They come on time and leave on time so our family schedules were not disrupted. Xavier has consistently been in touch with me through the process, and did a final inspection at the end of the scope of works. Warranty of their works and products demonstrate their confidence and reputation - which is another reason why we went with them. Thus far, i am happy with the working relationship, the trust, and very fast response.

Owner's reply
Really glad the site visit and root-cause diagnosis gave you and your wife the clarity that other waterproofing contractors couldn't provide over the years. Tracing water seepage properly — hollow areas under tiles, parapet walls, the works — takes real experience, and that's exactly what Xavier's assessment reflected before any repair began. Good to hear the two teams stayed diligent and kept things tidy across those 8 days, arriving and leaving on schedule so your household routine wasn't disrupted. Thank you for trusting us with the pool regrouting and basement seepage as well — our team looks forward to keeping that same responsive, straightforward service going.

What is nano waterproofing and how does it stop leaks without hacking?

Surface sealants sit on top of your tiles like a film, and foot traffic or cleaning chemicals wear them down eventually. Nano waterproofing soaks into the substrate instead, so it becomes part of the concrete rather than a layer on it.

Nano vs Traditional Waterproofing Comparison

Typical duration1 day for toilets5-7 days minimum
Performance lifespan10+ years designed5-10 years typical

Understanding hydrophobic nanotechnology

Nano waterproofing uses microscopic particles suspended in a clear, odourless liquid. The liquid penetrates concrete pores and grout lines and forms an internal barrier. It’s hydrophobic, meaning it repels water, so moisture can’t track through the same pathways it used before. Certain nanoparticles also react in the presence of moisture itself, sealing cracks as they appear and blocking further seepage into the concrete. The barrier stays invisible once cured. Your tiles look exactly the same; they just stop letting water through.

Self-healing properties for long-term protection

Standard waterproofing membranes fail once a hairline crack opens, usually from thermal expansion or small structural movements. Nano treatment handles that differently. When new moisture reaches a micro-fracture, dormant nanoparticles there react and seal the breach on their own. That’s what “self-healing” actually means here, and it’s the main thing that separates nano technology from a conventional coating, which fails for good the moment its surface breaks.

We don’t apply it blind, either. All projects begin with diagnostic tracing, using moisture meters and visual inspection, to find the actual source of the leak before any treatment goes down. That way the self-healing barrier is sealing the real failure point, not masking a symptom two tiles away from the problem.

Why choose non-hacking waterproofing over traditional methods?

Some structural failures still need hacking, and we’ll say so when that’s the case. But most residential leaks in Singapore don’t fall into that category any more. Nano mist waterproofing is now used by specialist contractors specifically to extend the life of existing waterproofing systems without demolition, which matters a lot in HDB flats and condos, where tearing out tiles means noise and debris your neighbours have to live with too.

Comparing disruption levels and downtime

Traditional waterproofing means removing tiles, hauling out rubble, re-screeding, and reinstalling finishes, usually over several days of dust and noise. Non-hacking application skips the demolition phase entirely. Our team can complete bathroom leak repairs while you keep using the rest of the home normally. There’s no sheeting draped over your furniture, no skip bin parked outside, and no waiting days for new adhesive to cure before you can use the room again.

Cost and longevity considerations

Traditional torch-on membranes typically last 5 to 10 years. Nano solutions are engineered for 10+ years of waterproofing performance, because the protection lives inside the material rather than sitting on it as a surface layer that can be scratched or worn away. Atlas Works backs every installation with a 3-year warranty, which reflects confidence in both the Canadian technology and our BCA-trained application standards.

Nano costs more per square metre than a basic cementitious coating up front. But once you add in what you’d otherwise spend on tile replacement, waste disposal and living around a multi-day renovation, it often works out cheaper overall.

How quickly can bathroom and toilet leaks be resolved?

Speed matters when water is actively damaging your property, or when it’s becoming a dispute with the neighbours downstairs. Toilet floor and grout leaks are typically sealed in about 4 hours, with most residential bathrooms finished within a day, so you’re not stuck scheduling around a major renovation.

The 4-hour sealing process for grout and floors

Our specialists clean the grout lines and tile surfaces, then apply the nano treatment so capillary action pulls it into the pore network beneath. That four-hour window covers prep, application and enough initial curing to handle light water exposure, though full chemical maturation continues over the following 24 hours. For HDB owners racing an urgent water ponding test under the Home Improvement Programme, or fielding complaints about ceiling stains from the unit below, that speed counts for a lot.

Achieving a 1-day turnaround for residential toilets

Most residential toilet jobs finish within a single working day, because there’s no cementitious screed or tile adhesive drying time to wait out. You can usually shower in the treated bathroom that same evening. Just avoid harsh chemical cleaners for the first 48 hours while the hydrophobic barrier finishes developing. The shorter the job takes, the less time water has to keep migrating into the walls and ceiling below, so this timeline also limits secondary damage.

Where else can nano waterproofing be applied in Singapore homes?

Bathrooms are the most common job, but the same technology works anywhere hacking would be too disruptive or too expensive to justify. Our non-hacking nano waterproofing services cover several problem zones across landed homes, condos and commercial buildings in Singapore.

Balconies and exterior walls

Exterior balconies take a beating during the monsoon seasons, November to January and June to September, which is why they’re such a common source of seepage into the room below. Balcony seepage solutions using nano treatment keep your existing decking or screed in place while building a breathable barrier that stops pooled water working its way through slab joints. Exterior walls with efflorescence, the white powdery stains left when water carries salts through concrete, respond well too: the hydrophobic layer halts that moisture transport without changing how the façade looks.

Basements, kitchens and roof terraces

Basement walls under negative-side water pressure can benefit from nano penetration, which blocks the capillary pathways running through the concrete. An actively flowing leak, though, may need high-pressure PU injection alongside it. Kitchen floors around sinks and dishwashers often develop grout wear that nano treatment seals without pulling out cabinets or disconnecting appliances. Roof terraces with an intact screed but a failing membrane are another good fit, as long as the substrate isn’t delaminating or sounding hollow when you tap it.

When is nano waterproofing not the right solution?

No single method solves every waterproofing problem, and an honest answer here saves you spending money on the wrong fix. Nano waterproofing can’t bridge structural cracks wider than 2mm, fix severely hollow tiles that have lost bond with the substrate, or rebuild a screed that’s already crumbling.

Those situations need something else: high-pressure polyurethane injection for active structural leaks, elastomeric paint systems for exterior wall cracking, or full hacking and reconstruction where the substrate itself is beyond saving. We stay diagnostic-first because pushing a nano fix onto the wrong problem just wastes your money and leaves the leak unresolved. When our moisture meter readings and inspection point to hacking or membrane replacement, that’s what we’ll recommend, even if it means turning down the nano job.

What credentials ensure a reliable waterproofing outcome?

Good materials in the wrong hands still fail. What you actually want is a contractor whose training and safety record you can check, not just a product claim on a brochure.

BCA-trained specialists and bizSAFE Level 3 certification

Atlas Works’ specialists are BCA-trained, so they know Singapore’s building codes and the HDB and condo management rules that govern this kind of work. Our bizSAFE Level 3 certification means our workplace safety practices have been audited, which protects both our crew and your property while we’re on site. For external façade work on high-rise buildings, we bring in IRATA-certified rope access teams who can reach difficult areas without scaffolding, which keeps the job shorter and cuts disruption at ground level.

Transparent itemised quotations and warranty

Every quote we give breaks costs down line by line, so you know what you’re paying for before work starts, with nothing sprung on you halfway through. The 3-year warranty covers materials and workmanship, so you have recourse if a treated area fails early despite correct application. If you’ve got a leak but you’re not sure nano treatment is the right call, book a site survey and we’ll assess it properly before recommending anything.

Frequently asked questions about nano waterproofing in Singapore

Is nano waterproofing approved for HDB flats?
Yes. Non-hacking nano treatment doesn’t involve structural alteration or tile removal, so it doesn’t trigger the permit approval that kind of renovation would need. It’s particularly useful for resolving inter-floor seepage disputes without going through a full renovation process.

Can nano waterproofing withstand Singapore’s monsoon seasons?
Yes. The hydrophobic barrier repels liquid water while still letting water vapour escape, which avoids blistering or delamination during heavy rain. It’s worth having it checked before the November and June monsoon transitions, just to catch any spot that might need reapplication.

What maintenance do nano-treated surfaces need?
Skip acidic cleaners and abrasive scrubbing pads, since they gradually wear down the hydrophobic layer. A standard pH-neutral bathroom cleaner is fine, and reapplying to high-wear grout lines now and then will stretch the treatment’s life well past the warranty period.

Does the 3-year warranty cover all types of leaks?
It covers failure of the nano treatment itself, where it’s been applied to a suitable substrate based on our diagnostic assessment. It doesn’t cover pre-existing structural defects, new cracks from building movement, or damage caused by later renovation work on the treated surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my leak needs hacking instead of nano waterproofing?

Hacking becomes necessary when moisture meters detect substrate saturation behind hollow-sounding tiles or when visual inspection reveals structural cracks exceeding 2mm width. Failed screeds that crumble under pressure also require complete removal and reconstruction. Atlas Works conducts diagnostic tracing before recommending any method to avoid applying nano treatment to unsuitable problems.

What safety certifications should I verify before hiring a waterproofing contractor?

Look for BCA-trained specialists who understand local building codes and HDB regulations specific to waterproofing works. bizSAFE Level 3 certification indicates audited workplace safety practices that protect your property during application. For external high-rise works, IRATA rope access certification ensures safe access without scaffolding.

How long does nano waterproofing last compared to traditional torch-on membranes?

Nano solutions are engineered for 10+ years of waterproofing performance because the protection integrates into the substrate rather than sitting as a vulnerable surface layer. Traditional torch-on membranes typically deliver 5-10 years before UV exposure and thermal cycling cause degradation. Actual lifespan depends on substrate condition, traffic levels, and maintenance practices.

Can nano waterproofing be applied during monsoon season?

Application can proceed during dry windows between rain showers, but the treated surface must remain dry for at least 4 hours post-application to allow proper curing. Scheduling outside peak monsoon months (November-January and June-September) provides more predictable weather windows. Interior bathroom applications are unaffected by seasonal rainfall patterns.
